Congratulations to the winner of the 2009 Pollard Prize, Sebastian Prange, for his paper ‘”Measuring by the bushell”: reweighing the Indian Ocean pepper trade’. This year’s runner up was Katharina Rietzler, with ‘Before the cultural cold wars: American philanthropy and cultural diplomacy in the inter-war years’. The standard of the entries this year was higher than ever before, reflecting the quality of the research presented at the IHR’s seminar programme.

Both papers will be published online in the IHR’s journal, Historical Research.
